Go and Tell- Africa Day 1

We finally made it to Kenya around 9:00 p.m. on Monday night-- that is one o'clock in the afternoon in Texas-- talk about a long trip! We arrived at the airport in Houston around 2:30 on Sunday afternoon... as we were checking our bags and working our way through the security lines, Jared realized that he forgot his shot record card (that we must show to re-enter the United States). So needless to say, that was a crazy start to our travels. But thankfully Bill was able to bring it to the airport :) On a side note-- I think the next time our church is taking a mission group outside of the country we should definitely have a class on appropriate and inappropriate things to say at the airport. There were a couple of times I was afraid that security might take us in due to some comments being made :) Our flights were great-- however, the plane food wasn't too good. We landed in Nairobi and made it through customs just fine.  We then made our way to the baggage claim area.  We got all 12 bags and headed out to find Laban.  Once we found him, we all loaded up in a van and headed to Diguna.  Diguna is a small Christian compound that was started by Germans.  The compound host VBS programs, as well as provides housing for mission groups.  As we were unpacking our bags, our wonderful cook Martha Wanja was preparing our dinner (she got out of bed at 11:00 p.m. to make us spaghetti- talk about a servant's heart).  As we were exploring the compound we found one building  that was open on all sides and had an amazing view.  We could hear running water-- Laban said that there was a creek and a waterfall not too far away.  Of course the guys wanted to grab their flash lights and explore it right away.  But Laban said that probably wasn't a great idea considering that the land was a reserve and the wild animals could be close by! The guys curiosity and idea of exploring disappeared pretty quickly!  Laban told us that one night, when he was working at Diguna, he was on night watch and was surprised by two lions laying in the middle of the floor. Surprise!!
We finally fell asleep around 2:30 a.m.-- with an early start to Naivasha the next morning.  We had to be up and ready to go at 6:00! Talk about jet lag!

Group Bible Study- The Good Samaritan (Luke 10)- Jacob made a good point that a lot of us had never thought about. He brought up the idea that maybe the first two men passed by the hurt man because they were focused on something that was very important (something that God had called them to do).  We are praying that we don't get caught up in what we think God wants us to do-- but that we look for every opportunity that He might present to us.

  1. Welcome to Kenya!! So glad that you made there safe and didn't have any problems going through Customs. I am so happy that you and Jacob are doing this together. What better way to start a marriage and keep it strong, than to do God's work together.

I went and spoke to Mt View's Women on Missions group Wednesday about A Place of Hope. Your Mom & Jacob's was there. The ladies were all so sweet and receptive. And they gave me a donation for APH. It was so wonderful.

I can't wait for you guys to get back and hear about all the wonderful things God did through you! Be blessed and have fun!

    Love,
    Cindy
